Why don't people who live in areas prone to certain natural disasters build their buildings accordingly? it never ceases to amaze me that people simply do not do it.

I Was 3 years old, and these 3 Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Jeanne Came through my Hometown Cocoa Beach, I Evacuated to Hernando Florida for Charley in 2004. The other two hurricanes that hit Cocoa Beach, I stayed for Frances and Jeanne. Few days after I evacuated, I came home to no power from evacuating hurricane Charley and hurricane Jeanne. We had no power for a whole week during those memories from 2004.

this video is really well put together, and the footage is captivating. however, I can't help but wonder if it's time to reconsider how we respond to these disasters. while it's important to document them, it feels like the focus sometimes shifts away from the urgent need for better preparedness and climate action. what do you all think?

Caught hell in Ft Lauderdale...11 days with no power

This is civilizational peak of NYC, right there. 1945. I had an aunt (passed away a few years ago at 108) who arrived in NYC from the Caribbean in 1945. How she described those times, the civility, the classiness and self-respect of the people then, the cleanliness and orderliness of the city, helped me gain an appreciation for that era. She did say the best times of NYC to her were the 1950s, by which time any wartime rationing or privation had already past and the economy was going through a massive consumer boom. I can also imagine what it must have been like to experience NYC when it had three baseball teams in the same city at a time when baseball was such a dominant sport in American life.

Gas attendant says " I:'e got some good news and some bad news after pumping your gas in that wind. The good news it only cost you 5¢ to fill'er up. The bad news is charley did some pumping to. Your Tank is full but not with gas." Call a tow truck now or i'll have to charge you storage fees.
